Camp Pick-up and Drop-off are held at Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, 68 9th Street, Steamboat Springs, CO.

Reading on Ranches Camp is BookTrails’ premiere summer camp, offering a diverse variety of programming aimed at fostering both a love of literature and the outdoors.  Our camps are held on various local ranches through Routt County, giving students a unique experience to learn about the importance of local agriculture.  Each camp introduces a collection of stories, writing activities, and art projects focused around a common book or theme.  Our students also learn basic outdoor skills and facts about Colorado wildlife.

For children in Grades 1-5th, We offer week-long summer day camp running from 8:30/8:45am to 5:00pm, some of our camps include a Thursday night overnight at Fetcher Ranch.  Our camps are mostly held on historic Fetcher Ranch in Clark, Colorado on the banks of Steamboat Lake.  We are fortunate to enjoy a fantastic partnership with the Fetcher/Lotz family that allow us to visit and experience this amazing land.  We also will travel to different local ranches throughout Routt County and public natural areas.  Camp descriptions can be found here.

Reading on Ranches Camp NEW Overnight Site

During the past two years, BookTrails has been hard at work to raise funds for the construction of our new overnight camp site-- The Reading Ranch. This new site makes it possible for us to offer new week-long overnight residential camps for middle school-aged students.  The two acre site is situated in the middle of upper Fetcher Ranch, nestled between groves of old growth pine and aspen with a bustling creek as a border.  It is completely off-the-grid and BookTrails is working with sustainability specialists to help create the best innovations in water treatment, solar power, and other exciting projects in which our students will have the opportunity to learn and participate.  During Summer 2017, BookTrails will be able to accommodate 16 students at the site per week for four weeks of programming.

Students will live in raised, platform tents and learn in outdoor classrooms surrounded by hundreds of acres of hiking trails and pristine wilderness.   We are a short drive or walk from Steamboat Lake State Park.  We anticipate that construction of the final phases of the site will be complete in 3-5 years, at which point it will accommodate 48 students per week.  If you are interested in helping with the development of this exciting project, please let us know!
